Brenda M. Sylvia
The act of painting outside and experiencing nature first hand is an integral part of my work. I am energized by the dynamic beauty of nature. I want to capture my excitement on canvas. While painting on location, I strengthen my connection to a specific site. Because the locations where I paint are important to me, I strive to create a sense of place in my art. My hope is that the viewer will then "see" what I do in my subjects. My work in the Virgin Islands is closely linked to my experiences with the natural beauty and the culture of the Islands. My paintings in Virginia capture the natural beauty, rural lifestyle, and waterman culture of the Northern Neck area by the Chesapeake Bay.
